September 17-21: Save A Museum Exhibit & Sale

The Wilmer Jennings Gallery at Kenkeleba is pleased to collaborate with the Toussaint Louverture Cultural Foundation to present a spirited exhibition and sale of an important gathering of work donated by more than 80 important Haitian artists, including traditional masters along with contemporary Haitian artists from the Tri-State region. In an unprecedented effort, 88 original artworks donated by the Haitian masters, emerging artists and collectors will be on display for sale.

Among the featured artists are: Frankétienne, Edouard Duval-Carrié, Philippe Dodard, Hervé Télémaque, Franck Louissaint, Ludovic Booz, Etzer Charles, Jonas Allen, Lafortune Felix, Essud Fungcap. Eric Girault, Yolene Legrand, Michele Voltaire Marcelin, Emmanuel Merisier, Marilene Phipps-Kettlewell, and Camy Rocher.

Organized by the Toussaint Louverture Foundation, each work of art was gathered for its perceived influence or interpretation of the Haitian cultural realm. This significant Haitian Fine Art was donated by artists and collectors from around the world to raise funds for the repair of the Musée d’Art Haïtien du Collège St. Pierre in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The Musée d’Art Haitien du Collège St Pierre was built in 1972 in the historic center of Port-au-Prince with the help of Alfred Voegeli, Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Haiti. The museum remains one of the few institutions that preserve the Haitian paintings of the twentieth century.  Its collection includes irreplaceable work from 1944-1945 to today.  The museum was severely damaged by the 2010 earthquake and has been closed to the public since then.
