In this two-hour interactive workshop, Mélissa Baptiste and Chantal Baptiste of MC Arts Collective will lead little artists through an engaging exploration of identity and community through photography, storytelling, and collage!

Participants will learn basic photography concepts and then have a portrait taken with an instant camera during the workshop. Using their instant portraits as the centerpiece, attending children will create mixed-media collages incorporating colors, patterns, images, and drawings of their choosing. To complete their creations, participants will create a short story or caption to share what “lakay,” the Haitian Creole word for home, means to them.

The workshop will finish with a spontaneous gallery walk where participants can display their artwork and share their stories. Each young artist will leave with a personalized piece that celebrates identity, creativity, and connection to Haitian culture!

This session of Ti Atis is made possible with support from the Diaspora Community Services HRI project.
